Saints show fight in friendly draw with Brighton
Southampton showed the resilience it will need to escape from the EFL Championship this season, coming from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion in a pre-season friendly on Sunday (AEST).
After having an early strike disallowed, Yankuba Minteh put the Seagulls ahead at St Mary's Stadium in a lively battle between the two south coast sides.
But just as Saints fans were reviving painful memories of last season – when it was relegated from the top flight to the Championship – Jay Robinson sparked hope with a deflected from the edge of the finish that halved the deficit.
Adam Armstrong then levelled from the spot on 73 minutes to signal to the home support that there is plenty of fight in this Southampton side to push for a promotion straight back to the Premier League.
Southampton's Championship campaign begins next Saturday with a high-profile clash against newly-promoted Wrexham, which is chasing another promotion for its star owners Rob Mcelhenney and Ryan Reynolds.
