Mahomes Talks About Comparisons Between the Patriots and Chiefs
Patrick Mahomes, three-time champion with the Kansas City Chiefs, recalled on Monday that as a child, he hated the dynasty formed by the New England Patriots, so now he understands the critics of the winning era the team he leads has built.
"It’s funny because I used to be that guy. As a kid, I was a Cowboys fan and hated the Patriots. Now I appreciate the greatness of those great Patriots teams because I see how hard it was to do what they did," said the quarterback on the opening night of Super Bowl LIX.
Super Bowl LIX: The Big Opportunity for Mahomes and the Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs, champions of the AFC, appeared on the field at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, the venue for the NFL title game, which they will face off against the Philadelphia Eagles in next Sunday. Mahomes, who is aiming to make his team the first to win three consecutive Super Bowls, referred to the dynasty the Patriots built with Tom Brady as their quarterback, who won six Super Bowls in the first two decades of this century.
Brady’s Advice and the Team’s Strength
Now, Mahomes, leader of this new Chiefs dynasty, mentioned that he has received advice from Tom Brady, who now works as a star analyst for a TV network. "Now I’ve learned a lot from his advice, and I listen to him in his broadcasts," he said.
Mahomes emphasized that being part of one of the most hated teams has made them stronger. "When people are against you, it makes you a brotherhood. We know we’re doing it the right way, and we can do it over and over again if we stay united on the field and with our fans; it’s us against everyone," he stressed.
