Historic Matchup Set for the Santiago Bernabéu
The NFL confirmed this Tuesday the full schedule of international games for the 2025 season, including a historic first: a regular season matchup in Madrid, Spain. The game will see the Miami Dolphins take on the Washington Commanders at the Santiago Bernabéu on Sunday, November 16.
This marks the first time a regular season NFL game will be played in Spain. The event is being organized in partnership with the Madrid City Council and the Community of Madrid.
“We’re thrilled to welcome the Washington Commanders to Spain for our first-ever NFL regular season game in Madrid, an incredible global city,” said Brett Gosper, NFL Head of Europe and Asia-Pacific.
“This historic matchup between the Miami Dolphins and Washington Commanders reflects the league’s commitment to growing the game globally, and we can’t wait to bring it to fans at the world-class Santiago Bernabéu, home of Real Madrid,” he added.
Josh Harris, Managing Partner of the Commanders, stated: “It’s an honor to represent the Washington D.C. area on the global stage. Playing at such an iconic stadium like the Bernabéu is a huge opportunity to connect with new fans and share the excitement of Commanders football.”
Seven International Games in 2025
In total, the NFL will host seven international games during the 2025 season. The action kicks off on September 5, with the Los Angeles Chargers opening Week 1 against a to-be-announced opponent at Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, Brazil.
On September 28, the Pittsburgh Steelers will face the Minnesota Vikings at Croke Park in Dublin, marking the first regular season game ever played in Ireland. A week later, the Vikings will travel to London to take on the Cleveland Browns at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on October 5.
The New York Jets will play the Denver Broncos at the same stadium on October 12, followed by the Jacksonville Jaguars facing the Los Angeles Rams at Wembley Stadium on October 19, their 14th appearance in London as part of their ongoing UK agreement.
Lastly, the Indianapolis Colts will host the Atlanta Falcons at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium on November 9, the first regular season game held in the German capital and the fifth overall game in the country, following previous games in Munich and Frankfurt.
