NFL Monitors Los Angeles Wildfires
The NFL, the professional American football league, informed this Wednesday that it is closely following the events related to the wildfires in Los Angeles, California, the city that will host the wild card round game between the Los Angeles Rams and the Minnesota Vikings, scheduled for next Monday.
Wildfires and solidarity in Los Angeles
The game between the Los Angeles Rams and the Minnesota Vikings is scheduled to take place on the night of Monday, January 13, at the SoFi Stadium, located in Inglewood, California. In recent days, multiple wildfires have ravaged various areas of Los Angeles. Reports indicate that the flames have destroyed over 1,000 structures and left dozens of people affected, as they struggle to escape the fire and strong winds sweeping the region.
Dozens of firefighters are working tirelessly to control the fires, which have intensified due to the winds, which, according to weather forecasts, will continue for at least a couple more days. In response, the Los Angeles Rams posted a message of solidarity on their social media.
"Our hearts are with those affected by the wildfires in the city and with the first responders who are protecting our community," the team wrote on its official account.
The response from the Los Angeles Chargers
On the other hand, the Los Angeles Chargers, the other team in the city, announced that they will donate $200,000 to the American Red Cross, the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, and animal rescue organizations that are sheltering animals displaced by the wildfires.
"Our hearts are with all those who have been displaced by these wildfires, the firefighters, the police officers, and the frontline workers who are risking their lives to keep us safe, and those among us who have stepped forward to help one another in this incredible time of need," said Dean Spanos, president of the Chargers.
Despite the challenges posed by the wildfires, the NFL is moving forward with the game schedule. The Chargers will also play in the divisional round, but unlike the Rams, who will play at home, the Chargers will visit the Houston Texans next Saturday.
