How Much Will Luka Doncic Earn With the Lakers?
After the bombshell move that brought Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers from the Dallas Mavericks, many questions have surfaced regarding the superstar’s salary and contract structure, as well as his adaptation to a new franchise.
How Much Does Doncic Earn?
As part of a five-year, $215 million extension signed in 2022, Doncic has a guaranteed annual salary of just over $43 million for the 2024/25 season, according to sports finance specialists Spotrac.
This guaranteed amount is set to increase to $45.9 million in 2025/26 and $48.97 million in 2026/27.
Why Is He Not Eligible for a Supermax Contract With the Lakers?
At the Mavericks, Doncic was in line for a five-year, $345 million Supermax extension. However, as ESPN’s Bobby Marks pointed out, the 25-year-old Slovenian is no longer eligible for a Supermax contract with the Lakers.
Under the NBA’s current collective bargaining agreement, players must remain with the franchise where they signed their first contract in the league unless they were traded to a new team within the first four years of their career.
Doncic was in his seventh year with the Mavericks, having been traded to the Texas franchise in 2018 shortly after being drafted by the Atlanta Hawks.
The former Rookie of the Year and five-time All-Star will now have to negotiate an extension under new terms with the Lakers.

On February 4, Luka Doncic was officially introduced as a Los Angeles Lakers player. The Slovenian star was seen holding his new jersey, confirming that he will continue wearing the number “77” as he looks to amaze the world with his talent on the court.
