Luka Dončić’s Impact Lifts Lakers to No. 2 Seed in the West
Many experts speculated about how long it would take to see results—and, more importantly, good chemistry—between Luka Dončić and LeBron James. However, Dončić's impact has been immediate, elevating the Lakers to a level that could concern many teams across the NBA.
Are the Lakers unstoppable after Dončić's arrival?
On Sunday, LeBron James needed 18 points to reach 50,000 but fell just short with 17 on a tough shooting night (6-of-17 from the field) while also committing eight turnovers. Dončić, on the other hand, was locked in, shooting 9-of-17 from the field and 5-of-12 from beyond the arc, leading the Lakers with 29 points, six rebounds, and nine assists.
Since Dončić joined the Lakers, he has played in nine games, with the team winning seven. More impressively, they are riding a six-game winning streak, securing the second seed in the Western Conference.
After shaking up the NBA with a blockbuster trade to acquire Dončić, the Lakers are on a dangerous run, positioning themselves as a legitimate threat to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
While Dončić had a slow start in his first three games with the team, he has turned things around, averaging 26.4 points and 9.2 rebounds over his last five outings. Despite lingering concerns about their center position, the Dončić-James duo might be enough to carry the Lakers deep into the playoffs.
