The San Antonio Spurs have locked in De’Aaron Fox as the franchise’s lead guard for the long haul, agreeing to a four-year, $229 million maximum contract extension.

The deal, which begins in the 2026-27 season, ensures Fox will be in a Spurs uniform through 2029-30, ending speculation about his long-term future after last season’s dramatic trade from the Sacramento Kings. 

Fox, 27, arrived in San Antonio at the 2025 trade deadline in a three-team deal—quickly making his mark on a youthful, retooled Spurs roster. Despite joining midseason and later being sidelined by finger surgery, Fox averaged 19.7 points, 6.8 assists, and 4.3 rebounds in 17 games with San Antonio.

The extension not only rewards his immediate impact but stakes the franchise’s hopes of contention on Fox’s continued growth and leadership.
