The Harsh Statements From Nacho Beristáin That Put Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez Under Scrutiny
Shocking words shake Mexican boxing. Nacho Beristáin spoke without filters about Canelo Álvarez, questioned some of his victories, and revealed an experience that sparked uncomfortable rumors. What exactly did the legendary trainer say?
Mexican boxing legend Ignacio “Nacho” Beristáin has sparked controversy after making strong statements about the state of national boxing and the figure of Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez. In an interview with Récord.com, the veteran trainer claimed that several of the champion’s victories raise “many doubts” and that there is an “untouchable” status surrounding him that prevents open criticism.
“There are fights whose results simply don’t convince. You can’t speak badly about Canelo because he’s shielded by too many interests,” Beristáin remarked.
A Disturbing Experience in Jalisco
During the conversation, the trainer recalled an incident in Guadalajara when, after attending a boxing event, he was left without transportation to the airport. That’s when a group of armed men invited him to meet a figure they referred to as “the boss.”
Although Beristáin did not confirm the man’s identity, the context fueled speculation about possible links to organized crime figures. The coach recounted that the man greeted him calmly, eating popcorn, and asked him to “never lose his humility.”
Rumors Involving Canelo
In the same interview, Beristáin claimed that this “boss” has a godfather-like relationship with Canelo Álvarez.
“That guy (the boss) is the godfather of the redhead (Canelo),” the trainer stated.
Beristáin even mentioned that, within boxing circles, some people say “Canelo is untouchable,” reinforcing his belief that the multiple-time champion enjoys special protection.
