Sudden Death with No Suspicious Circumstances
Local authorities have classified Wilson’s death as "sudden," with no signs of suspicious circumstances. Although the official cause of death has not been confirmed, reports suggest a possible suicide, sparking renewed conversations about mental health both within and beyond the sports community.
British MMA fighter Paddy Pimblett, who trained alongside Wilson, emphasized the importance of speaking out about mental struggles:

Hakaraia Wilson’s MMA Career
Known by his full name, Te Hakaraia O Te Rangi Wilson, he held a professional MMA record of 4 wins and 3 losses. His last fight was in October 2024, showcasing his promising potential with his skills in jiu-jitsu, which he honed internationally, including at the Soma Fight Club in Bali.
In November 2024, Wilson underwent surgery on his left arm and had expressed excitement about returning to competition. In a 2020 interview, he credited his father as the inspiration behind his MMA career, highlighting the strong familial bond that motivated his journey in the sport.
