Franco Colapinto Leaves Williams for Alpine in a Bold Career Move
Argentine driver Franco Colapinto has taken a significant step in his Formula One journey, leaving Williams Racing to join BWT Alpine as a test and reserve driver. The announcement, made this Thursday, marks the beginning of a multi-year contract, emphasizing Alpine's commitment to nurturing young talent.
From Williams to Alpine: A New Challenge
At just 21 years old, Colapinto steps into a critical role as Alpine’s third driver, teaming up with race drivers Jack Doohan and Pierre Gasly. In 2024, Colapinto competed in nine Grands Prix with Williams, achieving his best finish with an eighth place at the Azerbaijan GP. He debuted in the category in September at the Italian GP, finishing 12th.
At Alpine, Colapinto will work alongside test drivers Paul Aron and Ryō Hirakawa as part of the Previous Cars Testing Program. He will also contribute to simulator work at the team’s headquarters in Enstone, UK, and attend several Grands Prix throughout the 2025 season.
Colapinto's Excitement: "It’s a True Honor"
In an official statement, Colapinto shared his enthusiasm for this new chapter in his career:
"I’m super excited to have the opportunity to join the BWT Alpine Formula One Team. First, I want to thank Williams for all their support since I joined their Academy and up to my last race in Abu Dhabi. They made my dream of racing in Formula One come true, and I’ll always be grateful for that."
Regarding his move to Alpine, he added:
"Now it’s time for a new chapter. A big thank you to Luca de Meo, Flavio Briatore, and Oliver Oakes for believing in me and welcoming me to the team. I’m eager to get started and see where this journey takes us."
Colapinto also expressed his gratitude to his sponsors, partners, and Argentine fans:
"Your passion and encouragement mean the world to me. Let’s aim for even greater things in 2025 and beyond."
