The Wait is Over: The MotoGP Champion Will Debut in Qatar
Jorge Martín, World Champion of MotoGP in 2024, has been cleared to race and will compete for the first time this season at the Lusail circuit
It took a while, but finally, the wait is over. After missing the first three races of the season in Thailand, Argentina, and Texas due to various physical issues, Jorge Martín, World Champion of MotoGP in 2024, will get on his new bike with Aprilia for the first time this season… and he will do so to debut in the Qatar Grand Prix this weekend, which will take place at the Lusail circuit.

The serious injuries that kept Jorge Martín from debuting
After the euphoria of winning the World Championship just a few months ago, Jorge Martín has barely been able to complete 13 laps this season on his new bike with the colors of Aprilia… which dates back to the first day of testing at the Sepang circuit. On that day, he suffered a spectacular crash that caused a fracture in his right hand and more fractures in his left foot.
Miraculously, he managed to recover in time to debut at the Thailand Grand Prix. But he crashed again, which led to an even more serious injury than the previous one, as he broke three bones in his left hand and had to undergo surgery on February 25th. This situation, as he has revealed on a few occasions in the past few weeks, has been quite difficult for him.
Jorge Martín celebrates the end of his nightmare
However, he regained his spirits by traveling to Texas to cheer on his teammates… before receiving the medical clearance that will allow him to race this upcoming weekend at the Qatar Grand Prix. It will, therefore, be his debut with Aprilia, where he will race alongside Marco Bezzechi, and the first race he will compete in five months after clinching the World Championship in Barcelona in November 2024.
As expected, Jorge Martín expressed his happiness upon receiving this news: "I’m really looking forward to getting back on track, and I’m happy to at least try to race in Qatar. The goal will be to build confidence with the RS-GP25 and start completing some laps. I’m not sure how my physical condition will be; I’m definitely not 100%. We’ll try to do our best and improve little by little.” The wait is over. The World Champion is back, and he will debut in Qatar.
