Cristiano Ronaldo Sends Message to Lindsey Vonn After Her Winter Olympics Crash
The Portuguese superstar showed his human side by sending a message of encouragement to Lindsey Vonn after her dramatic crash at the Winter Olympics.
The global sports community was shaken by the shocking crash suffered by American skier Lindsey Vonn during the 2026 Winter Olympics in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. Just seconds into her downhill run, the legendary athlete endured a violent fall that required an airlift evacuation and immediately raised concerns about the severity of her injuries.
After multiple surgeries and several critical days in the hospital, Vonn was discharged and has begun a long rehabilitation process. Among the many messages of support flooding social media, one stood out — from Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, forward for Al-Nassr and one of the most influential athletes in the world.
A crash that stunned the sports world
The dramatic accident occurred only 13 seconds into the downhill event. The fall left the Olympic champion with complex fractures in her tibia and fibula, as well as compartment syndrome — a condition that can compromise muscles, nerves, and blood circulation.
For several days, there were real fears of amputation, but swift medical intervention prevented the worst-case scenario. Vonn underwent multiple surgeries in Europe and the United States, including a crucial procedure performed by Dr. Tom Hackett that saved her leg.
The skier also revealed she suffered a fracture in her right ankle and will initially rely on a wheelchair before progressing to crutches. Her full recovery could take around a year.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s message of support
Messages of solidarity quickly arrived from across the sporting world. Among them was a heartfelt note from Cristiano Ronaldo, who understands what it means to compete at the highest level for decades and overcome physical challenges.
The former Real Madrid and Manchester United star shared words of encouragement directed at the skier:
“Champions are defined by the moments they win, and the moments they refuse to give up. Lindsey Vonn, the mountains you conquered were never bigger than the strength you carry. Keep fighting. Legends always rise.”
The message quickly went viral and was praised by fans and fellow athletes, highlighting the Portuguese icon’s empathy toward a historic figure in winter sports.
A long road to recovery
After two weeks of hospitalization and multiple surgeries, Vonn expressed relief at returning home and beginning her rehabilitation journey. The recovery will be gradual: limited mobility first, then crutches, and eventually reconstruction of her anterior cruciate ligament.
Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo remains active with Al-Nassr, maintaining remarkable competitive form into his 40s while preparing for future challenges with the Portugal national team.
