Polish cyclist Katarzyna Niewiadoma, the reigning Tour de France Femmes champion, suffered a brutal crash during the 2025 Strade Bianche Donne, forcing her to withdraw from the race. The incident, which left shocking images of her injuries, occurred 50 kilometers from the finish line when she lost control on a turn and crashed into a guardrail.

The cyclist expressed her frustration on Instagram, admitting that she had always wanted to reach the podium in this race. Despite the tough fall, she tried to stay positive: "It could always be worse, so I’m grateful for what I have—in this case, pretty strong bones."
In her post, Niewiadoma shared photos of her injuries, including burns on her leg and face. Fortunately, after being taken to the hospital, X-rays ruled out any fractures.
Husband Taylor Phinney Provides Health Update
Former cyclist and Niewiadoma’s husband, Taylor Phinney, shared an update on Twitter: "Kasia is okay, just a scrape on her waist and a hit to the head. I got there just in time to ride with her in the ambulance. She’s in good spirits, though frustrated she couldn’t compete."
When Will Katarzyna Niewiadoma Return to Racing?
Before the race, Niewiadoma was among the favorites for the podium, but the tough course conditions took their toll. She has now begun her recovery and is evaluating when she can return to high-intensity training.
Meanwhile, her crash left the competition wide open. In her absence, Demi Vollering claimed victory after a strong final climb.
