How Congo Arrive

Congo Republic opened its qualifying campaign with a narrow 1-0 defeat against Namibia on Matchday 1.

After a scoreless first half, Bethuel Muzeu scored the only goal of the match in the 47th minute, heading Namibia into the lead shortly after the restart.

The Red Devils pushed for an equalizer during the remainder of the second half but were unable to break down the Namibian defense and finished their opening fixture without a point.

Congo now gets an opportunity to respond at home in Brazzaville, although it faces a Cameroon team that made a winning start and entered Matchday 2 among the early leaders of the group.

How Cameroon Arrive

Cameroon made a positive start to its campaign with a 3-1 victory over Comoros in its opening Group G fixture.

The Indomitable Lions took the lead in the 39th minute when David Nyengue headed home a Danny Namaso cross following a corner. Bryan Mbeumo doubled the advantage shortly after halftime, scoring in the 48th minute.

Warmed Omari pulled one back for Comoros three minutes later to bring the visitors back into the match, but Cameroon eventually secured the result. Danny Namaso scored the third goal in the 81st minute after being set up by Junior Tchamadeu.

The 3-1 victory gave Cameroon three points from its opening qualifier.

Congo Looks to Respond Against a Group G Leader

After Matchday 1, Cameroon and Namibia have three points, while Congo and Comoros remain without a point.

Group G does not include any of the three automatically qualified AFCON 2027 co-hosts, meaning the teams finishing first and second after six matchdays will qualify directly for the finals in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

For Congo, collecting points at the Stade Alphonse Massamba-Débat will be important to avoid beginning the group stage with consecutive defeats. Cameroon, meanwhile, has the opportunity to finish the opening qualifying window with six points.
