Zambia will look to recover from its opening defeat against Algeria, while Togo enters Matchday 2 of Group I with three points after earning a narrow victory over Burundi.
Zambia will host Togo on Tuesday, September 29, on Matchday 2 of Group I in the 2027 AFCON Qualifiers. The match will be played at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, with kickoff scheduled for 12:00 PM ET / 9:00 AM PT. How Zambia Arrive
Zambia opened its qualifying campaign with a 3-1 away defeat against Algeria in Tizi Ouzou.
The hosts took the lead after only two minutes through Jaouen Hadjam, forcing the Chipolopolo to chase the match almost immediately. Zambia responded after halftime and found an equalizer in the 57th minute through Fashion Sakala.
The score remained level for only ten minutes. Ibrahim Maza restored Algeria’s advantage in the 67th minute before substitute Anis Hadj Moussa added a third in the 74th to complete the 3-1 victory.
Zambia now returns home still looking for its first points of the group stage.
How Togo Arrive
Togo, meanwhile, made a winning start with a 1-0 victory over Burundi at the Stade de Kégué in Lomé.
The only goal of the match arrived in the 17th minute. Karim Dermane received a pass from Zuberu Sharani and struck from the edge of the penalty area to give Les Éperviers the lead.
Burundi pushed for an equalizer after the break and even hit the crossbar, but Togo successfully protected its advantage through the final whistle.
The victory gave the Togolese side three points before its first away fixture of the qualifying campaign.
Togo Looks to Stay Near the Top of Group I
After Matchday 1, Algeria and Togo sit on three points in Group I, while Zambia and Burundi remain without a point.
The section does not contain any of the three automatically qualified AFCON 2027 co-hosts, meaning the teams finishing first and second after six matchdays will qualify directly for the finals in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
For Zambia, getting a positive result in Ndola would provide an immediate response to its opening defeat. Togo, meanwhile, has an opportunity to begin the group stage with consecutive positive results and strengthen its early position in the qualification race.
