Morocco once again takes center stage in African futsal
The TotalEnergies CAF Futsal Africa Cup of Nations 2026 will take place from October 12-21 in Rabat, with eight national teams competing for the continental crown. This will be the eighth edition of the tournament, and Morocco will once again serve as hosts after winning the last three editions.
The competition will run for 10 days and feature 16 matches, all staged in the Moroccan capital. Games will be played at the Moulay Abdellah Sports Hall and the Yassine Sports Hall, the two venues selected to host Africa’s leading futsal nations.
This edition also marks another step in the tournament’s evolution as it enters a new phase in the CAF calendar. Several of the continent’s traditional powers return, while Morocco will have the chance to extend a run of dominance that began in 2016.
How the 2026 Futsal AFCON groups look
The eight teams were drawn into two groups of four. Morocco headline Group A as hosts and defending champions, while Egypt, winners of the tournament’s first three editions, are the biggest name in Group B.
Group A
- Morocco
- Libya
- Zambia
- Algeria
Group B
- Egypt
- Angola
- Mozambique
- Tanzania
The tournament opens with Libya vs Zambia, before Morocco begin the defense of their crown against Algeria. In Group B, Egypt will look to return to a continental summit they have not reached since 2004.

A direct path to the title
Each nation will play three group-stage matches, facing every other team in its section once. At the end of the opening round, the top two teams from each group will advance directly to the semifinals, leaving very little margin for error.
The semifinal winners will meet in the final on October 21, while the two losing teams will contest the third-place match. In total, 16 games will be played from the opening fixture to the crowning of the new African champion.
Morocco enter as the team to beat after winning the 2016, 2020 and 2024 editions. Egypt also have three titles — 1996, 2000 and 2004 — while Libya, champions in 2008, are the only other team in the field to have lifted the trophy.
A new trophy for a new era
The 2026 edition will also introduce a new visual identity and a new trophy. Its design features five golden arches representing the five players each team has on court, with a map of Africa placed at its center.
The trophy also pays tribute to the competition’s history, with the names of previous champions engraved into its structure. The redesign is intended to reflect the growth of African futsal and give the tournament a stronger identity after it first launched in 1996 as the African Futsal Championship.
Morocco now have the chance to become the first nation to win four consecutive titles, while Egypt will try to reclaim the status they held during the competition’s early years. Ten days in Rabat will decide who leads the next chapter of African futsal.
