The Liverpool Matches Mohamed Salah Will Miss Due to AFCON Duty
Mohamed Salah remains one of Arne Slot’s most essential players at Liverpool, but the Reds will now be forced to navigate a crucial stretch of the Premier League without their star winger.
Mohamed Salah remains one of Arne Slot’s most essential players at Liverpool, but the Reds will now be forced to navigate a crucial stretch of the Premier League without their star winger. With the Africa Cup of Nations approaching in Morocco, Salah will join Egypt for the tournament and become unavailable during one of the busiest periods of the English calendar.
When Will Salah Join Egypt for AFCON?
Slot confirmed that Salah will leave the club to report for national-team duty, though he will not join Egypt from the start of their training camp.
The Egyptian FA has scheduled a friendly against Nigeria on December 14, but Salah will link up with his national team the following day, December 15. As a result, Liverpool will be without him for several Premier League fixtures and the FA Cup third round.
Which Matches Will Salah Miss with Liverpool?
Based on his reporting date, here are the fixtures from which Salah will be absent unless Egypt releases him early:
- Tottenham (Away) – Premier League – December 20
- Wolves (Home) – Premier League – December 27
- Leeds United (Home) – Premier League – January 1
- Fulham (Away) – Premier League – January 4
- Arsenal (Away) – Premier League – January 8
- FA Cup Third Round – Weekend of January 10–11
- Burnley (Away) – Premier League – January 17
Depending on Egypt’s progress at AFCON, Salah could remain out through late January as well.
