"Another Galactico would leave Real Madrid adrift."
Real Madrid continues its process of transformation and renewal. Following the confirmed departures of key figures such as Carlo Ancelotti, Luka Modric, and Lucas Vázquez, another club legend is now bidding farewell: Raúl González Blanco. The former striker and current head coach of Real Madrid Castilla will step down from his role at the end of the season.

Great successes with Castilla
Raúl ends his second stint with the club, this time as a coach. After retiring as a player in 2015, he returned to Real Madrid in 2017 to work in youth development, and in 2019, he took charge of the club’s reserve team. Under his leadership, Castilla became known for its disciplined and competitive style, as well as for producing talent ready to take the leap into professional football.
His most notable achievement came in 2020 when he led the youth team to win the UEFA Youth League — Real Madrid only title at that level. Since then, his work at Valdebebas has been instrumental in developing players who now shine in the first team and across top European leagues.
Despite receiving multiple offers over the years, Raúl remained committed to Castilla, driven by his dream of one day managing the Real Madrid first team. However, that opportunity never materialized, and he has now decided to embark on a new chapter in his coaching career.
His possible destination: Leganes
CD Leganés, newly promoted to La Liga, has emerged as a potential destination for the former Real Madrid captain. His agent, Ginés Carvajal, is currently working to find a new project that matches Raúl experience and ambitions.

With his departure, Real Madrid is not just losing a coach, but one of its most iconic figures. Raúl leaves behind 18 years as a player and eight as a coach at the club he calls home. His legacy — built on titles, commitment, and leadership — will remain a permanent part of Real Madrid’s history.
