From the outset, Arsenal pressed high and disrupted Barcelona’s buildup, aiming to isolate Aitana Bonmatí, the heart of the Spanish midfield. The English team sought quick transitions and nearly capitalized early on through Caitlin Foord, who headed over in the 11th minute.

Barcelona responded with flashes of brilliance, including a dazzling move by Bonmatí inside the box that was cleared at the last moment. As the game progressed, the Catalans gradually gained possession, with Caroline Graham Hansen a constant threat down the right flank.

Blackstenius Strikes to Make History

After a goalless first half, Barcelona came out stronger in the second period. Claudia Pina rattled the crossbar in the 48th minute, and a powerful shot by Ona Batlle narrowly missed the target just minutes later. Coach Pere Romeu brought on Salma Paralluelo in the 62nd minute to inject more pace into the attack.

However, it was Arsenal who broke the deadlock. Following a well-executed corner in the 74th minute, Emma Blackstenius found space inside the area and slotted home a low strike past Cata Coll, leaving the Barcelona defense stunned.

In the closing minutes, Barcelona threw everything forward, delivering cross after cross, but the Arsenal backline, led by Leah Williamson and goalkeeper Van Domselaar, held firm to preserve the lead.

Arsenal Claim Their Second Women’s UCL Title

The final whistle confirmed Arsenal’s triumph and their second Women’s Champions League title. Meanwhile, Barcelona were left heartbroken, denied their third consecutive crown after previous wins in 2021, 2023, and 2024.

It was a clash between two giants of European football, but on this occasion, it was Arsenal who executed their game plan to perfection. Despite the disappointment, Barcelona remain a dominant force in women’s football—and will surely be back to contend for more silverware.
