(VIDEO) Garnacho’s Stunning Goal That Won Him the Puskás Award
Alejandro Garnacho, forward for Manchester United, has been awarded the 2024 Puskás Award, recognizing the best goal of the year. The Spanish-Argentine player received this prestigious honor thanks to an incredible bicycle kick scored against Everton on November 26, 2023, during a Premier League match.
The goal came in the 3rd minute, following a precise cross from Diogo Dalot on the right wing. Garnacho adjusted his body mid-air to connect with the ball in perfect acrobatic style, leaving goalkeeper Jordan Pickford helpless and astonishing everyone at Goodison Park. This goal was key in Manchester United’s 3-0 win and beat out other nominated goals from players like Walter Bou, Federico Dimarco, and Hassan Al-Haydos.
An Argentine Legacy in the Puskás Award
This accolade makes Garnacho the second Argentine to win the Puskás Award, following in the footsteps of Erik Lamela, who claimed it in 2021 for his rabona goal with Tottenham. During the award ceremony in Qatar, Garnacho expressed his pride and thanked everyone who voted for him, highlighting that this achievement reflects teamwork and constant effort in training.
At just 20 years old, Garnacho has cemented his place among the great footballers recognized by FIFA, establishing himself as one of the brightest young talents in international football. This award is not only a personal achievement but also a motivation to keep excelling on the global stage.
