Alianza FC Crowned La Primera Champions After Penalty Shootout Win Over Municipal Limeño
The “Albos” secure their 19th title in a goalless final decided from the penalty spot.
In a thrilling night at the Estadio Mágico González, Alianza FC were crowned champions of the 2025 Clausura Tournament in El Salvador's top-flight league after defeating Municipal Limeño 4-3 on penalties following a 0-0 draw through 120 minutes.
A Tactical, Scoreless Final
From the start, both teams approached the match with caution and mutual respect, knowing what was at stake. Alianza FC, boasting experience from numerous finals, looked to control the tempo, while Municipal Limeño, chasing their first-ever league title, remained solid defensively and dangerous on the counterattack.
Clear goal-scoring opportunities were rare. Emerson Mauricio, one of Alianza FC’s standout players, tried to break through with his pace and skill, but Municipal Limeño’s backline stayed firm. The "Cucheros" attempted to surprise their rivals with long-range shots and set pieces, but failed to capitalize.
Penalty Shootout Seals the Title
With no goals during regulation and extra time, the match went to penalties. Alianza FC showed greater composure and precision, converting four of their five spot-kicks. Municipal Limeño, on the other hand, missed twice, sealing their defeat.
This victory marks the 19th championship for Alianza FC, tying CD FAS as the most successful teams in Salvadoran football history. For Municipal Limeño, it was their fourth appearance in a final, still without claiming the trophy.
The Alianza FC fanbase erupted in celebration, once again confirming their club’s status as a dominant force in national football.
