Brazil Loses Neymar Ahead of Clash against Argentina
The Brazilian national team has suffered a significant setback ahead of their crucial matches against Colombia and Argentina in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Forward Neymar, who recently returned to Santos, has been ruled out due to physical discomfort that will prevent him from participating. The news was confirmed by head coach Dorival Júnior, who explained that the former Barcelona and PSG star is still recovering and will not be available for the upcoming FIFA international break.
Injury and controversy before the call-up
Neymar's return to the Seleção had generated high expectations, as the forward had been absent from the national team for over a year after suffering a serious knee injury during a match against Uruguay in October 2023. His call-up for the clashes against Colombia and Argentina was seen as a chance to wear the Brazilian jersey again and regain top form.

However, his physical condition has been a subject of debate in recent days. The player did not take part in the Campeonato Paulista semifinal with Santos, sparking criticism from the press and fans. Many questioned his absence, especially after he was seen celebrating at the Rio de Janeiro carnival just days before.
In response to the accusations, Neymar took to social media, claiming that he had suffered discomfort that prevented him from playing. He insisted that he had tried to participate but did not feel fit to do so. "All I wanted was to be on the pitch and help my teammates in any way," wrote the forward, who watched from the bench as Santos lost 2-1 to Corinthians.
Brazil reshapes its squad
Along with Neymar, Danilo from Flamengo and Ederson from Manchester City were also withdrawn from the squad due to injuries. In their place, Dorival Júnior has called up young talents such as Endrick, who has impressed with Real Madrid, as well as Lucas Perri from Lyon and Alex Sandro from Flamengo.
Currently sitting in fifth place in the South American qualifiers with 18 points, Brazil is set to face Colombia in Brasilia on March 20 before traveling to Buenos Aires to take on reigning world champions Argentina on March 25. These matches will be crucial in their journey to the 2026 World Cup, and Neymar's absence is a significant blow for the team.
Despite the controversy, the Brazilian star has made it clear that he is eager to represent his country again. However, for now, he must focus on his recovery and work towards returning to his best form for future call-ups.
