Cafu Gives Vinícius A Wake-up Call
Cafu, one of the greatest legends in Brazilian football, has expressed his support for Vinícius Jr. in his fight against racism. In an interview with Globoesporte, the former AC Milan right-back spoke firmly on the issue, calling it a global problem and emphasizing the importance of education to eradicate it.
"Racism is cultural; it’s a matter of education. Children are like parrots; they repeat what they hear. That’s why education is key to fighting this problem," Cafu stated, reflecting on the attacks suffered by the Real Madrid player. "It’s upsetting to see what they did to Vini. It’s a delicate situation: a young Black man, from the favelas, poor, who conquered the world. Suddenly, the world was at his feet, and even then, he had to face this."
Cafu also called for self-reflection and acknowledgment of racism within Brazil before criticizing other countries. "Racism isn’t just out there; it’s also in our country. We have to fight it here, as well as combat it in other places. It’s a global problem, not just one country’s issue. Sadly, it has also made its way into football, where it should have no place."
For Cafu, Vinícius’ message has been crucial: "We can fight, and we will fight, but we must stand united. Vini is an example of resilience and strength. His voice is helping to open the world’s eyes, and that’s something we must support."
Cafu’s support not only highlights his solidarity with Vinícius Jr. but also underscores his commitment to profound change in football and society. With figures like Vini leading the fight on and off the pitch, Cafu believes significant steps can be taken toward a future without racism.
