Cristiano Ronaldo Wants To Be The Next “Steven Spielberg”
The Portuguese superstar is turning a new page in his career, debuting as a film producer alongside British director Matthew Vaughn. Through their new venture, UR-Marv, they aim to revolutionize the movie industry.
From the pitch to the big screen
At 40 years old, Cristiano Ronaldo continues to expand his legacy—this time far from football. The current Al-Nassr player and captain of the Portuguese national team has officially entered the world of cinema by co-founding the studio UR-Marv with filmmaker Matthew Vaughn, known for hits like Kick-Ass and the Kingsman series.
“This is an exciting new chapter for me,” Ronaldo told Variety. “I’m exploring new business opportunities, and cinema has always fascinated me.” The studio’s mission is to blend cutting-edge technology with classic cinematic foundations to create powerful stories that captivate audiences.
The project is already taking shape: two action films are completed and a third is in development. While plot details remain under wraps, Vaughn expressed his excitement: “Cristiano has created unforgettable moments on the field. Now he wants to inspire through film.”
Building a global empire beyond football
Ronaldo's business ventures continue to soar. In 2024, Forbes ranked him as the world’s highest-paid athlete, with total earnings of over €239 million—nearly €58 million of that coming from non-football businesses.
His portfolio spans various industries. Through CR7 SA and CR7 Lifestyle, he has launched products ranging from fashion and fragrances to footwear, recovery supplements, and wellness apps. He co-founded the hair transplant clinic group Insparya and owns part of the Pestana hotel chain under the CR7 Lifestyle Hotels brand.
In media, he’s invested in the Portuguese conglomerate Medialivre and launched his YouTube channel UR Cristiano, which already boasts over 70 million subscribers.
Partnering with Matthew Vaughn represents a strategic move to extend his brand into the entertainment world. And with this new venture, Ronaldo aims to replicate his winning formula in Hollywood.
Football’s Spielberg?
While he continues to score goals on the pitch, Cristiano Ronaldo now wants to create stories behind the camera. His ambition is unmatched: from football fields to boardrooms—and now to film sets. If his track record is anything to go by, the movie world may be witnessing the rise of a new creative powerhouse. Time will tell if he becomes the “Steven Spielberg of football”—but the spotlight is already his.
