Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor Make Barcelona's Squad for the Super Cup!
Barcelona Travels to Saudi Arabia for Spanish Super Cup with Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, Both Without Licenses to Play
Barcelona heads to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Monday with nearly the entire squad, including Dani Olmo, Pau Víctor, and the recently recovered Lamine Yamal, for their Spanish Super Cup clash against Athletic Club. Meanwhile, the club prepares to file an urgent appeal with the Higher Sports Council (CSD) on Tuesday, January 7.
The appeal comes after the licenses for Olmo and Pau Víctor were denied on Saturday. Due to the holiday for Three Kings' Day, Barcelona will have to wait until Tuesday to request an interim measure. The club plans to argue its case based on Article 130.2 of the Spanish Football Federation's (RFEF) general regulations, asserting that the contracts with the players have not been formally terminated.
The regulation specifies that a player can only be registered with one team per season "without being de-registered and re-registered by the same club during the same season." If the CSD rejects Barcelona's argument, the club may escalate the matter to an administrative court.
Flick Takes the Entire Squad to Jeddah
Despite the licensing concerns, the team travels with 28 players, including Olmo and Pau Víctor, who remain unlicensed, as well as four players—Lamine Yamal, Héctor Fort, Andreas Christensen, and Ferran Torres—awaiting medical clearance.
These four players completed their last training session before traveling and are notable additions to the squad. Also traveling is Marc Bernal, who is recovering from a long-term injury and will not play, while goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen remains in Barcelona to continue his rehabilitation.
