Intercontinental Cup: One of Six Titles Real Madrid Is Chasing This Season
Real Madrid not only has the chance to close the gap in the La Liga title race but also an opportunity to claim one of the seven trophies they are competing for this season, with the distinction of being reigning European champions.
Real Madrid’s Quest for Seven Titles
One of the key trophies up for grabs is the Intercontinental Cup, which Los Blancos can win if they secure victory in the final match on December 18 at Lusail Stadium in Doha, Qatar. This is the same venue where Argentina triumphed in the last FIFA World Cup.
Real Madrid has already won the UEFA Super Cup this season but still has the Spanish Super Cup, the revamped 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the newly formatted UEFA Champions League ahead of them.
The Intercontinental Cup is a showcase featuring champions from six continental confederations. Real Madrid, as the European champions, has the privilege of waiting for the Grand Final, where they will face the winner of the matchups involving Botafogo, Pachuca, and Al-Ahly.
When Does Real Madrid Play?
Carlo Ancelotti’s squad will take to the field on December 18 at Lusail Stadium in Doha, Qatar.
The Intercontinental Cup Final will kick off at 12:00 PM ET, 11:00 AM MT, 8:00 AM PT, and will be broadcast live on beIN SPORTS.
The Final Returns to Messi’s “Sanctuary”
The title match on December 18 will be played at Lusail Stadium, the iconic venue where Lionel Messi led Argentina to victory in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Under Messi’s leadership, Argentina defeated France in an unforgettable final that ended 3-3 after 120 minutes, including extra time. Argentina ultimately won 4-2 in a penalty shootout.
Lionel Messi, Leandro Paredes, Paulo Dybala, and Gonzalo Montiel scored for Argentina in the shootout, while Kylian Mbappé and Randal Kolo Muani converted for France.
In this historic match, Argentina secured its third World Cup title, ending a 32-year drought. Previous victories came in the 1978 FIFA World Cup Argentina, led by Mario Kempes, and the 1986 FIFA World Cup Mexico, spearheaded by Diego Armando Maradona.
