José Mourinho Merciless with Pep Guardiola
After Pep Guardiola recently made a remark towards José Mourinho through the media, the Portuguese manager responded... in his characteristic style.
"I hope that's not my case... He has won three championships, I’ve won six..." A statement that has stirred up a lot of attention. When asked to justify his gesture in front of Liverpool fans after another defeat of his Manchester City, Guardiola had shown six fingers to the Anfield crowd to remind them of his six Premier League titles, drawing a parallel between himself and his main rival, José Mourinho. A similar reaction had happened years earlier at Manchester United, but with three fingers, and the "Special One" was dismissed just a few months later.
A fate that, therefore, the current Skyblues coach does not wish for, as he recently extended his contract with the English North club, and did not hesitate to make his point clear with this sharp response aimed at his Portuguese counterpart.
"But I won honestly and cleanly"
Never far from defending his right to reply, José Mourinho wasted no time in counterattacking from Turkey, where he has been coaching Fenerbahçe since this summer. And he did so with one of his typical jabs. "Guardiola said something about me yesterday, that he has won six trophies and I’ve won three. But I won honestly and cleanly," the Portuguese responded, according to reports from Turkish media. "If I lose, I congratulate my opponent for being better than me. But I don’t want to win with 150 lawsuits," he continued, referring to the multiple charges against the Manchester club, which faces relegation due to alleged financial violations since the arrival of its Emirati owner in 2008. A true José Mourinho remark.
