Juan Fernando Quintero Leaves Racing to Join América de Cali
This Friday, the Diablos Rojos confirmed the news, highlighting the importance of signing such an internationally renowned player.
América de Cali and Racing Club have reached an agreement for the transfer of Colombian midfielder Juan Fernando Quintero.
"We have finalized an agreement with Racing Club and signed the definitive transfer of the talented midfielder Juan Fernando Quintero, a world-class player who comes to strengthen our squad this season," the Cali-based club announced in an official statement.
A Key Signing for América
At 32 years old, Quintero brings extensive international experience, having played for clubs such as River Plate in Argentina, Porto in Portugal, and Shenzhen in China. He is expected to arrive in Cali, also known as the "Branch of Heaven," in the coming days to undergo medical tests and formalize his contract with the team coached by Uruguayan Jorge 'Polilla' Da Silva.
With this addition, América de Cali bolsters its squad and solidifies its status as a title contender this season. Quintero, who has also been a key figure for the Colombian national team with 40 appearances and five goals since 2012, will bring experience and skill to the team’s midfield.
A Distinguished Career
Before joining América, Quintero played for clubs such as Envigado and Atlético Nacional in Colombia. He later moved to Europe, representing teams like Delfino Pescara in Italy, Porto in Portugal, and Stade Rennes in France. In South America, he shone with Independiente Medellín and River Plate, where he was part of the squad that won the 2018 Copa Libertadores against their eternal rivals, Boca Juniors, and the 2019 Recopa Sudamericana under coach Marcelo Gallardo.
Most recently, he played for Junior de Barranquilla before a brief stint with Racing Club, where he won the Copa Sudamericana. Now, the Colombian midfielder joins a roster that already features standout players like Duván Vergara, Cristian Barrios, Éder Álvarez Balanta, and Daniel Bocanegra, as well as new additions such as Uruguayan goalkeeper Santiago Silva, full-back Omar Bertel, and midfielder Sebastián Navarro.
