Kylian Mbappé Included in Real Madrid's Squad for Intercontinental Cup Final Despite Injury
Despite being injured, French forward Kylian Mbappé is part of Real Madrid's squad for the Intercontinental Cup. Whether he will play or not remains to be seen.
French forward Kylian Mbappé is the big surprise in Carlo Ancelotti's squad for the upcoming Intercontinental Cup final against Mexican side Pachuca on Wednesday. This match comes with injuries sidelining Dani Carvajal, Éder Militao, David Alaba, and Ferland Mendy.
Mbappé, who suffered a muscle injury in his left thigh during the Champions League match against Atalanta on December 10, has made a recovery and is in contention to play eight days later in the Intercontinental Cup final.
Jude Bellingham, who did not train in Madrid before the team’s departure to Qatar, has also been included in the squad, despite Ancelotti dealing with four injury absences.
The Italian coach, who recently welcomed back French midfielder Eduardo Camavinga after a muscle injury in Real Madrid's latest La Liga match against Rayo Vallecano, has also called up five academy players.
In addition to defender Raúl Asencio, who is already part of the first team, left-back Youssef Enríquez 'Yusi', right-back Lorenzo Aguado, winger Víctor Muñoz, and striker Gonzalo García will travel to Qatar. Fran González will be the third-choice goalkeeper, replacing Sergio Mestre.
Real Madrid’s squad for the Intercontinental Cup final is as follows:
Goalkeepers: Thibaut Courtois, Andriy Lunin, Fran González.
Defenders: Lucas Vázquez, Jesús Vallejo, Antonio Rüdiger, Raúl Asencio, Fran García, Youssef Enríquez 'Yusi', Lorenzo Aguado.
Midfielders: Aurelien Tchouaméni, Fede Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, Luka Modrić, Dani Ceballos, Jude Bellingham, Arda Güler.
Forwards: Rodrygo, Vinícius, Mbappé, Endrick, Brahim Díaz, Gonzalo, and Víctor Muñoz.
