Lamine Yamal Reveals Why he was Upset at Alavés
Lamine Yamal, a player for Barcelona, opened up about why he left the pitch frustrated after being substituted against Alavés in the last round of LaLiga. He said it was because he wasn’t “happy” with the level he showed during the match against the Vitoria team.
In an interview with RNE, the Barça winger denied being angry with his coach, Hansi Flick, who replaced him in the 67th minute with Ansu Fati.
“I think more than being angry, I was just unhappy with my performance. I felt I could’ve played better. I really push myself a lot, and I believe that’s the mindset I need to keep to play at 100 percent in every match. It was more about my own standards,” he explained.
“He asked me why I was feeling that way (Hansi Flick). I told him it wasn’t because of the substitution; it was because I didn’t feel like I helped the team enough. I could’ve contributed more. I told him I’d be at 100 percent for the next game,” he added.
He also talked about the German coach's personality, saying he’s “very close to all the players,” both young and veteran, and emphasized that he instills a lot of confidence in the entire Barcelona squad: “It’s clear that we’re all very comfortable in the locker room, and everyone coming off the bench feels that confidence too,” he pointed out.
“We’re really enjoying ourselves, and it shows. We’re happy with the style of play the coach gives us, along with the trust and freedom he provides. And most importantly, winning—because if we played like this without winning, people wouldn’t be as happy. Racking up those three points makes us very happy,” he concluded.
