Mbappé Clashes With Reporter After Failing to Win a Title With Real Madrid
Kylian Mbappé responded to tough questions following his first season with Real Madrid, defending his performance despite missing out on the Champions League and watching PSG lift the trophy without him.
Mbappé Defends His Season and Congratulates PSG
Ahead of the third-place match between France and Germany in the UEFA Nations League, Kylian Mbappé faced criticism over his debut season with Real Madrid, where the team failed to win the coveted Champions League. The forward rejected claims of failure and pointed to the two trophies the club did win.
"We won two titles — that’s not a failure. Yes, we lost some key matches, but it was a year of growth," he said during a press conference. Rather than show bitterness, the former PSG star praised his old team: "They won the Champions League without me, and it doesn’t bother me. It’s a great achievement for them."
Mbappé revealed he watched the final from Marrakech and felt that Paris Saint-Germain earned the victory. "I was happy for them. They went through a lot — I know those struggles too. I experienced everything at PSG except winning the Champions League. But now, they’re the best team in Europe," he noted.
"My Time at PSG Was Over"
Commenting on his departure from PSG, Mbappé was clear: "I don’t think I left too early. My story there was finished. I gave everything I had. But fate wanted them to win it without me." The Real Madrid striker also reflected on his individual form, admitting he’s still on the rise: "Since 2025 started, I’ve played well. It’s not perfect, but I’m progressing."
Looking ahead, Mbappé stressed the importance of the FIFA Club World Cup, where he sees a chance to finish the year strong. "There are still titles left to win. The Club World Cup is a big one," he stated.
Finally, the French captain addressed the constant scrutiny he faces: "I’ve always been in the spotlight, and that pushes me to work harder. I’ve been accused of a lot, but I’ve overcome those challenges. It’s up to me to keep moving forward."
While critics may question his impact, Mbappé insists this is only the beginning of his journey with Real Madrid, and there's still plenty left to prove.
