Mexico International Rodrigo Huescas Could Face Jail Time in Denmark
Rodrigo Huescas, rising star of Mexico’s national team and current player for FC Copenhagen, is facing one of the most serious episodes of his young career. The 20-year-old right-back could serve up to 20 days in jail after being caught dangerously speeding in Denmark.
Reckless driving: 111 km/h in a 50 km/h zone
The incident occurred in Kalvebod Brygge, where Huescas was clocked driving at 111 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. Danish law classifies this as reckless driving, a serious offense that resulted in:
- Immediate revocation of his driver's license
- The possibility of 20 days of unconditional imprisonment
His club, FC Copenhagen, responded with a firm statement:
“It is unacceptable to break the law and endanger others with your actions. As a player for FC Copenhagen, you carry a great responsibility to lead by example.”
Huescas owns up: “I accept the consequences without hesitation”
Huescas addressed the incident in a public apology shared by both the club and the Mexican Football Federation (FMF):
“I made a big mistake and apologize for such poor judgment. I deeply regret it and accept the consequences without hesitation. As players, we are role models for future generations, and I fell short of that responsibility.”

Awaiting a final court decision
While the possibility of jail time remains, Danish media reports suggest that the sentence could be reduced or converted to a fine or community service, depending on the court’s final ruling.
The FMF confirmed it was notified of the case on March 27, but has not yet decided whether to impose any additional disciplinary measures on the player.
