OFFICIAL: Ancelotti Leaves Real Madrid to Manage Brazil After Losing to Barcelona
After a tough loss to Barcelona, Carlo Ancelotti closes his chapter at Real Madrid and has a new challenge ahead: Brazil. The CBF has officially announced him as their new head coach starting May 26.
CBF Confirms Appointment of the Italian Coach
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has officially announced the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti as the new head coach of the national team. The Italian manager will take over on May 26, once the season with Real Madrid concludes. This move ends months of speculation and marks a historic moment—Ancelotti will be the first foreign coach to lead the Seleção.
His debut is set for June 6 against Ecuador, followed by a match on June 10 versus Paraguay, both part of the South American Qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues stated they are “hiring the best coach in the world” and emphasized that Ancelotti’s experience will be key in bringing Brazil back to the top of world football.
Clásico Loss Marks End of Madrid Era
The announcement came just days after Real Madrid suffered a 4–3 defeat to Barcelona in the final El Clásico of the season, held at Montjuic. Despite a hat-trick from Kylian Mbappé, the Madrid side couldn’t hold their lead and are now virtually out of the LaLiga title race. It marked the fourth straight loss to Barcelona this season, including matches in the Supercopa and Copa del Rey.
In the post-match press conference, Ancelotti pointed to the absence of key defenders: “We were missing five starting defenders, and it showed,” he said. The poor results against Barcelona may have accelerated his departure from the club.
Xabi Alonso Tipped to Take Over at Real Madrid
With Ancelotti leaving, all eyes now turn to Xabi Alonso, current manager of Bayer Leverkusen and former Real Madrid player. He is widely expected to step in as the new head coach next season.
Ancelotti’s arrival in Brazil signals a new era for the five-time world champions. Having won every major league in Europe, the Italian manager now aims to restore Brazil’s dominance on the international stage.
