OFFICIAL: Jhon Durán Signs with Al-Nassr and Will Play Alongside Cristiano Ronaldo
Colombian forward Jhon Durán has been officially announced as a new player for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, in a deal worth around £65 million (approximately €78 million). The 21-year-old leaves Aston Villa after a year in the Premier League and joins a league that has been attracting top football stars in recent transfer windows.
With his move to Al-Nassr, Durán will share the pitch with renowned players such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mané, two legends who have left their mark on European football. The Saudi league continues to strengthen with young talent, and the Colombian becomes one of its most significant signings.
Aston Villa confirmed the player's departure through a statement on social media, without disclosing the exact transfer fee. “Everyone at Aston Villa wishes Jhon all the best in this next step of his professional career,” the English club stated, as they now rely solely on Ollie Watkins as their only striker.
Durán joined Aston Villa in January 2023 from MLS club Chicago Fire, in an £18 million (€21 million) transfer. During his time in England, the Colombian scored 20 goals in 78 matches, although this season he had only started seven Premier League games.
Aston Villa’s head coach, Unai Emery, had expressed his desire to keep Durán but acknowledged that the transfer was due to a significant offer. “If he leaves, it’s because they’re paying good money. We want to maintain a high level and make smart decisions in the market,” said the Spanish coach. Now, Durán faces a new challenge in Saudi Arabia, where he will aim to shine alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.
