Pochettino’s coaching staff for USMNT revealed
The U.S. Soccer Federation has announced the team of assistants that will join Argentine coach Mauricio Pochettino to form the new technical staff for the national team. It’s a group Pochettino has worked with for years across several European teams, from Espanyol to Chelsea, as well as Southampton, Tottenham, and Paris Saint-Germain.
Pochettino’s assistant coach for the U.S. will be Spaniard Jesús Pérez, who has worked with him since their time at Espanyol. Also joining the staff is Argentine Miguel D’Agostino, a former teammate of Pochettino’s at Newell’s Old Boys, who has been with him throughout his coaching career since Espanyol.
The goalkeeping coach will be Spaniard Toni Jiménez. Jiménez and Pochettino played together at Espanyol and later reunited as part of the coaching staff there. Pochettino’s son, Sebastiano Pochettino, is coming on board as a sports scientist, a role he previously held at Tottenham, PSG, and Chelsea.
Finally, Catalan Sílvia Tuyà is a new addition and will serve as the strength and conditioning coach for the squad. Tuyà has worked with Levante Badalona in Spain's Liga F. "Together, we have a lot of experience and a very clear way of working," said Pochettino in a statement.
"We’re going to use that experience to get to know these guys, both as people and as players, share our knowledge, and, together as a united group, help this team achieve our goals," he added.
Pochettino was announced as the U.S. coach a month ago, following Gregg Berhalter's dismissal after the team’s disastrous performance in this summer’s Copa América. The U.S. is set to co-host the 2026 World Cup with Canada and Mexico. Monday marks Pochettino’s first day of training with the 25 players called up for his first camp, based in Austin, Texas, ahead of friendlies against Panama and Mexico on October 2 and 15.
