Vitor Roque Chose Palmeiras for This Reason
Brazilian forward Vitor Roque was officially presented as a new Palmeiras player this Friday and revealed that one of the key reasons behind his return to Brazil was the opportunity to play in the Club World Cup with his new team.
The Dream of Playing in the Club World Cup
"Without a doubt, the Club World Cup influenced my decision. Playing in it is a dream, and if I get the chance, it will be incredible," said Vitor Roque during his first press conference as a Palmeiras player. The club will participate in the international tournament as the 2021 Copa Libertadores champion.
The 20-year-old striker stated he is "at peace" with his choice to return to Brazil after a short spell in Spain, where he played for Barcelona and Betis. He also promised to reach his best form soon to help his new team with goals.
A Record-Breaking Transfer in Brazilian Soccer
Vitor Roque’s transfer is now the most expensive in Brazilian soccer history, with a reported fee of €25 million. However, the forward downplayed the figure and emphasized that his spot in the team will depend on his performances rather than the cost of his signing.
He also addressed the competition within Palmeiras, stating that he expects a "healthy rivalry" with other players, including rising star Estêvão, who will stay with the club until after the Club World Cup before moving to Chelsea.
With his arrival, Vitor Roque aims to establish himself in South American soccer and make an immediate impact under the guidance of Abel Ferreira, with his sights set on shining on the international stage.
