Will Dani Olmo Play in Barcelona's Supercopa Final?
As the Supercopa de España Final approaches on Sunday, January 7, FC Barcelona faces a major question: Will Dani Olmo be in the starting lineup? The team continued their preparations on Thursday with a closed-door training session in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the host city of the tournament.
Split Training Session Leaves Olmo’s Role Uncertain
The Barcelona squad conducted a split training session. The starters from the 2-0 victory over Athletic Club focused on physical recovery at the team’s hotel, while substitutes and other squad members trained at the King Abdullah Sports City, near the venue for the final.
Despite these preparations, there is still no clarity on whether Olmo will feature in the starting XI. The midfielder was included in the squad after the Spanish High Council for Sports (CSD) granted a provisional authorization for his registration, along with forward Pau Víctor.
However, head coach Hansi Flick might choose to stick with Gavi and Pedri in the midfield, given their strong performances in the semifinal, and use Olmo as a substitute if needed.
Olmo Ready Despite Administrative Uncertainty
While his registration status remained in limbo, Dani Olmo continued training without interruptions, maintaining peak fitness despite the pressure and speculation surrounding his case. This preparation makes him fully ready to contribute if called upon in this crucial final.
Barcelona awaits their opponent, which will be decided in Thursday evening’s semifinal clash between Real Madrid and Mallorca. The Supercopa Final is scheduled to kick off at 8:00 PM local time at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium.
