AS Monaco officially signs centre-back from Bayern Munich
It’s now official: English centre-back Eric Dier has been announced as a new signing for AS Monaco ahead of the 2025–26 season. The experienced 31-year-old defender joins on a free transfer after his contract with Bayern Munich came to an end. He has signed a three-year deal with the club from the Principality, keeping him there until June 2028. According to reports, the agreement is worth around $3.8 million per year, making it one of the most solid summer signings in Ligue 1.
A high-profile addition for Monaco’s Champions League return
Dier, who has been capped 49 times by England, will bring leadership and experience to a Monaco side making its return to the Champions League next season. Over the past year and a half, he played for Bayern Munich, appearing in 47 matches (37 as a starter), winning the Bundesliga, and reaching the Champions League quarterfinals. His departure follows a season of ups and downs, alternating between starting and coming off the bench under Vincent Kompany.
Before moving to Germany, Dier spent the majority of his career at Tottenham Hotspur, where he was a defensive mainstay for a decade. He made over 360 appearances for the club, including the memorable 2019 Champions League final against Liverpool. He began his professional journey in Portugal with Sporting CP, where he also obtained Portuguese citizenship.
A new challenge in Ligue 1
By joining Ligue 1, the defender adds a fourth top European league to his résumé, having previously played in Portugal, England, and Germany. At AS Monaco, manager Adi Hütter sees him as a key piece to strengthen the back line and compete at the highest level, both domestically and in Europe, with the goal of challenging PSG’s dominance.
This signing marks a new chapter in the career of a versatile player with international experience and a strong desire to shine again. Eric Dier arrives at Stade Louis II ready to get back to his best and become one of the leaders of this Monaco side heading into the new season.
