Bayern Munich Furious Over Alphonso Davies' Injury and Threatens Legal Action
Bayern Munich is outraged following the serious injury suffered by Alphonso Davies during the recent FIFA international break. The Canadian defender, a key player in Vincent Kompany’s squad, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during his national team’s match against the United States in the CONCACAF Nations League, ruling him out for the rest of the season. This situation has sparked fury within the Bavarian club, which is now considering legal action against the Canadian Soccer Federation, alleging negligence in handling their player.
Bayern Munich Furious Over Alphonso Davies' Injury
Bayern is deeply concerned, not only because Davies is a crucial part of their defensive setup, but also because he recently extended his contract until 2030. Beyond the sporting impact, the German club has strongly criticized how the Canadian national team managed the situation. Jan-Christian Dreesen, Bayern’s CEO, expressed his frustration and confirmed that legal measures are being considered.
"We demand a full clarification of the events and reserve the right to take legal action," Dreesen told Bild in an interview. According to the Bayern executive, Canada’s coaching staff acted irresponsibly by allowing a player with muscle discomfort to participate in a match that had no sporting significance. He also criticized the decision to send Davies on a 12-hour intercontinental flight without a thorough medical examination, calling it "serious negligence" and a clear violation of medical care standards.
Despite the club's frustration, Dreesen made it clear that they do not blame the player for what happened. "He is the captain of his national team and wants to take responsibility, but the way this was handled was completely wrong. It was reckless. We are the ones paying his salary, and that’s why we will thoroughly investigate this matter," he stated.

With Davies confirmed to be out, Bayern Munich will now have to restructure their defense for the remainder of the season. Meanwhile, tensions between the club and the Canadian federation continue to rise, and legal consequences may follow in the coming weeks.
