Kimmich Explodes after Bayern's Debacle in Rotterdam
Bayern Munich suffered a humiliating defeat in Rotterdam (0-3) against a solid Feyenoord side, in the same stadium where France won the Euro 2000. The Dutch team, who had already drawn against Manchester City earlier this season after a spectacular 3-3 in the Champions League, once again shone against a European giant, this time without conceding a single goal.
After the defeat, Joshua Kimmich didn’t hide his frustration. "This has nothing to do with bad luck. We're leaving too many things to chance. When I see the chances we create, how much we invest to generate opportunities, how many we waste, and how easy we make it for opponents to score against us... This was already evident against Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim. In the Champions League, you get punished for it. And despite all our opportunities, we didn’t deserve to win," said the German international.
Kimmich's criticism became even harsher when assessing the team’s current level: "The standings don’t lie. We have to admit that we’re not an elite team right now. An elite team cannot lose a match like this. We’re still missing something," he said. These comments aim to wake up the Bavarian squad, which leads the Bundesliga and has qualified for the Champions League knockouts but now faces a tough challenge to reach the Top 8 after this blow.
Bayern must win their final group stage match against Slovan Bratislava, a team that has already been eliminated and hasn’t earned a single point, but their advancement to the round of 16 is not guaranteed. While the loss against Barcelona (1-4) in late October was painful, this latest defeat exposes unacceptable shortcomings for a club with Bayern’s history and ambition.
Kimmich made it clear that the current situation is unacceptable: Bayern cannot afford any more mistakes if they want to maintain their status as a European powerhouse.
