The Worst Predictions are Confirmed with Alphonso Davies: He Will Not Be at the 2025 Club World Cup
Alphonso Davies has torn his ACL and will be unavailable for Bayern Munich for the next six months
Life's circumstances have taken a turn for Alphonso Davies’s career at the least opportune moment. A few months ago, it seemed certain that he would join Real Madrid as a free agent. However, Bayern Munich offered him a significant salary increase to keep him until 2030, and just a few weeks later, he suffered a serious ACL injury that will keep him sidelined for the next six months.

Davies will undergo surgery today
The injury occurred right after the start of the match between Canada and the United States to determine which team would take third place in the CONCACAF Champions League 2025, which was ultimately won by the team managed by the American Jesse Marsch. They managed to win without Alphonso Davies, who, after just 10 minutes of play, grabbed his knee and showed signs of significant pain that prevented him from continuing.
Back in Munich to assess the extent of the injury, Bayern has been able to confirm the worst possible prognosis, which will prevent him from participating in the 2025 Club World Cup: “Bayern will have to do without Alphonso Davies for a long period after the international break. Davies was diagnosed with an ACL tear in his right knee after returning from the Canadian national team. He will undergo surgery today,” read the statement issued by the club.
Upamecano also returns injured
With 27 starts in 31 games this season, Alphonso Davies's serious injury presents a significant setback to Bayern Munich's aspirations this season. However, Kompany has reliable players to replace him. In principle, Raphael Guerreiro should take over the left flank... although Kompany has already used Hiroki Ito in this position on several occasions.
“Unfortunately, during international breaks, there’s always a risk that players will return injured; in this case, it has affected us significantly. Our squad is strong and will compensate for these absences. We will now work even more closely together. We have the quality to continue pursuing our major goals,” said Max Eberl, sporting director of Bayern Munich. And in addition to Davies, Bayern has also lost Upamecano for the upcoming weeks.
