Thomas Müller isn’t Thinking About his Future
With his contract set to expire next June, the 35-year-old German veteran avoided questions about his future and joked about the possibility of Bayern Munich selling him as early as this winter.
It’s not just Liverpool facing important decisions about renewing their key players like Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Bayern Munich has its own pressing case to address: Thomas Müller.
At 35, the German legend’s contract will end on June 30, raising questions about whether the Bavarian club will offer him an extension and under what terms. While Bayern’s management hasn’t made a formal offer yet, Müller himself seems unfazed by the situation. "I’m relaxed. I won’t say much because, honestly, I’m not thinking about it too much. It’s not a particularly pressing issue for me. It’s only January," said the 2014 World Cup winner, who admitted to having made a list of pros and cons to help decide his future.
In a sign of his good spirits and calmness, the German even joked in front of the microphones: "I could even be sold before the end of January," he said with a laugh after Bayern’s dominant 5-0 victory over Hoffenheim. However, such a scenario seems highly unlikely, as Müller embodies the very essence of Bayern Munich.
A standing ovation at the Allianz Arena
Trained at the club since he was 11 years old, Müller has spent his entire career at Bayern and has won absolutely everything with the German giant. Beyond the titles, his experience makes him a respected figure in the locker room. While his role on the team has diminished and he’s no longer as decisive, he still delivers in key moments. For example, yesterday, he assisted Leroy Sané for the first goal of the match, marking his second assist of the Bundesliga season.
"You can’t always control the result. You can only try to create chances and make the most of them. But what matters is how we play; that’s what keeps us competitive. Right now, we’re not playing football focused solely on results; we’re trying to stick to our style, and I think that shows," Müller reflected. He seems to be enjoying his role under Vincent Kompany’s leadership in a team that comfortably leads the Bundesliga with a four-point advantage over Bayer Leverkusen.
As negotiations are set to begin, Thomas Müller received a heartfelt ovation from the fans at the Allianz Arena, who chanted his name. This show of affection reinforces the sense of calm for a player who already belongs to Bayern Munich’s pantheon of legends.
