Borussia Dortmund 0-1 Augsburg: Hosts slide into Bundesliga bottom half
Borussia Dortmund slid to 10th in the Bundesliga following their seventh defeat in 15 matches in all competitions.
Borussia Dortmund were beaten 1-0 at home to Augsburg on Saturday as their nightmare season continues to get worse.
Niko Kovac's side dropped to 10th in the table following the defeat and trail the top four having played a game fewer than fourth-placed Eintracht Frankfurt.
The hosts fell behind in the 23rd minute when Jeffrey Gouweleeuw nodded home for Augsburg with their first chance of the game.
Julian Brandt thought he had drawn level after tapping in at the far post from Nico Schlotterbeck's knockdown, but was adjudged to be offside after a lengthy VAR review.
The home side controlled the remainder of the match at the Westfalenstadion, but were unable to find a way past a stubborn Augsburg defence despite winning nine first-half corners.
In the second half, Dortmund had 77% of the possession but only managed to work the visiting goalkeeper once and were ultimately left frustrated.
They travel to Lille next for the second leg of their Champions League round-of-16 tie, having drawn the first leg 1-1 at home. Next up in the league is a trip to RB Leipzig next Saturday.
Data debrief: Dortmund lack cutting edge
Following Saturday's defeat, Dortmund have now won just three of their last 10 league games and are in the bottom half of the table.
For all their dominance in possession (72%), they managed just one shot on target from 14 attempts on goal across the match.
The hosts also generated just 1.11 xG from their chances, compared to 0.2 xG from Augsburg.
