Kasper Hjulmand was unhappy with the amount of "turmoil" in Bayer Leverkusen's frantic 3-3 draw at Freiburg.

Leverkusen missed the chance to close further ground on the Bundesliga's top four as Matthias Ginter scored an 86th-minute equaliser for Freiburg at Europa-Park Stadion.

Hjulmand's team had previously twice come from behind, thanks to goals from Christian Kofane and Alejandro Grimaldo, before Martin Terrier put them into the lead.

Yet Ginter headed home late on to secure a share of the spoils, leaving Hjulmand hugely frustrated.

He said: "It was a good game for the fans, but for me as a coach there was too much turmoil.

"We started very well and then showed a strong mental reaction after going behind twice. We started well again in the second half and had good control.

"After the 3-2 goal, Kofane had a great chance to score a fourth. We had to defend hard in the final phase. We're disappointed with the result, but Freiburg also did very well."

There were 38 shots in total (21 for Freiburg, 17 for Leverkusen), with the hosts posting 2.67 expected goals to the visitors' 2.11.

"We wanted more than a point, but we have to move on," said Grimaldo, who has now scored five direct free kick goals in all competitions this season – more than any other player from Europe's top five leagues.

"We got tired in the last 15 or 20 minutes, it was a difficult game."
