RS Berkane hold off Simba SC to win the CAF Confederation Cup for the third time in their history
RS Berkane were crowned champions of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup 2024/25 after a 1-1 draw in Zanzibar, securing the title thanks to their aggregate lead in a thrilling, emotional final.
Moroccan grit on hostile ground
The Moroccan side, who had the edge from the first leg, showed nerves of steel and determination under heavy pressure in Dar es Salaam, clinching their third title in this competition after previous wins in 2020 and 2022.
With a packed stadium and their fans behind them, Simba SC came out swinging and took the lead early: Joshua Mutale made it 1-0 in the 17th minute after a great assist from Elie Mpanzu. The Tanzanian team kept pushing, with Steven Mukwala and Shomari Kapombe constantly threatening the defense.
Drama and key moments
This match had everything. In the 50th minute, Yusuph Kagoma got sent off, leaving Simba a man down. Then in the 73rd minute, Mukwala thought he’d scored the winner, but VAR ruled it offside. Two massive blows that changed the game completely.

Just when the home side were going all in, the unexpected hero stepped up: Soumaila Sidibe smashed a low shot from a tight angle that beat keeper Moussa Camara, making it 1-1 and silencing the crowd — sealing the title for the Moroccan side. With this latest trophy, RS Berkane lift the CAF Confederation Cup for the third time, firmly cementing their status among the giants of African football. This is no fluke — they’re a true African powerhouse!
