(VIDEO) Here's Why Arturo Vidal Was Sent Off vs Racing in the Copa Libertadores
Arturo Vidal was once again in the spotlight, but this time for all the wrong reasons. The Chilean midfielder was sent off during Colo Colo’s clash against Racing Club, corresponding to the final matchday of the 2025 Copa Libertadores group stage—a night to forget for the Chilean side.
Provocative Gesture Leads to Red Card
The incident took place in the second half at the Presidente Perón Stadium in Avellaneda, with Colo Colo already trailing 0-3. Amid loud jeers from the home crowd, Vidal reacted by raising two fingers, referencing the two Copa América titles he won with Chile against Argentina.
The referee, who had already booked Vidal earlier in the game, interpreted the gesture as a deliberate provocation toward the fans and issued a second yellow card, followed by a red, leaving Colo Colo with ten men at a crucial point in the match.
Colo Colo Knocked Out
The defeat and Vidal’s red card sealed a disappointing campaign for Colo Colo, who were eliminated not only from the Copa Libertadores Round of 16 but also missed out on a place in the Copa Sudamericana.
Once again, Vidal’s temperament has become a topic of discussion, especially in high-stakes games where emotions tend to run high.
