(VIDEO) The Controversial Disallowed Goal for Atlético Nacional vs Bahia Due to Offside
The match between Atlético Nacional and Bahia in the Copa Libertadores was overshadowed by a controversial refereeing decision that stirred tension at the Atanasio Girardot Stadium.
Goal Disallowed for Kevin Viveros Due to Offside
Just two minutes into the match, Kevin Viveros received a long ball from William Tesillo sent from his own half. After controlling it masterfully and beating a defender, Viveros slotted the ball into the back of the net. However, the assistant referee immediately raised the flag for offside. Following a VAR review, the goal was disallowed due to a marginal offside, apparently because Viveros’ shoulder was slightly ahead of the last defender.
Divided Reactions Among Experts and Fans
The call sparked mixed opinions among fans and analysts. Refereeing expert José Borda stated that the offside was “very tight” and noted that Viveros' shoulder seemed slightly offside. Meanwhile, specialist account @ElVARCentral backed the VAR decision, pointing out that the attacker’s shoulder was indeed ahead of the defensive line at the moment of the pass.
