Deportes Iquique Eliminates Santa Fe in Penalties and Advances in The Libertadores
Deportes Iquique advanced to the 3rd phase of the Libertadores Cup after an epic match against Santa Fe in the 2nd phase. After a draw in regular time and a penalty shootout full of emotions, the Chilean team sealed their progression with a standout defensive performance and a precise penalty from Hans Salinas.
The first half of the match was marked by parity on the scoreboard. After a surprising shot by Steffan Pino in the 6th minute, taking advantage of a scramble in the Santa Fe box, Deportes Iquique extended their global lead to 1-3. However, the home team quickly responded and tied the game in the 14th minute, bringing the global score to 2-3.
In the second half, clear goal-scoring opportunities were scarce, but the intensity didn't drop. Both teams sought the decisive goal, and the battle in midfield kept fans on the edge of their seats.
Until the last breath of the match, Santa Fe managed to equalize with an impressive header from Christian Mafla, finishing off a spectacular play to take the game to the final stages, after beating the heroic goalkeeper Leandro Requena of Deportes Iquique.

In the penalty shootout, parity continued with great performances from the goalkeepers and some errors, but it was Deportes Iquique who broke the tie with a great penalty from Hans Salinas. To complete the victory, Requena saved the penalty that sent the Chilean team to the next phase.
