Fernando Gago Trusts in Boca Juniors' Comeback in the Copa Libertadores
The ‘xeneize’ club will have to turn around the tie against Alianza Lima at La Bombonera
Boca Juniors had a night to forget in Lima, where they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Alianza Lima in the first leg of the second round of the Copa Libertadores. The Argentine team paid the price for defensive mistakes early in the game and a lack of efficiency in converting their chances. Despite controlling possession, they failed to generate clear goal-scoring opportunities and, after the quick goal from the opponent, they were forced to chase the scoreline for the remainder of the match.

Fernando Gago's analysis of the defeat
Fernando Gago acknowledged the team's difficulties, especially in the first minutes of the match. "They scored the goal very quickly. We knew we were going to have chances to suffer those transitions. We had control of the game, we just lacked those final passes", commented the Xeneize coach. Despite controlling possession, Boca was not effective in the attacking third, which cost them the chance to equalize the score. Gago also pointed out that the team made mistakes, not only due to the opponent's chances but also because of the opportunities they failed to create in the first half.
Despite the defeat in Peru, Gago remained confident that the team could turn things around in the second leg. "We have the return leg at home, we're going with a lot of confidence and knowing exactly what we need to do, improve, and try to get the result", the coach assured. Boca will have the advantage of playing at La Bombonera, and Gago hopes the team can use this factor to secure qualification for the next stage of the Copa Libertadores.
Boca's injuries and the message to the fans
The coach also addressed the injuries in the team, as Boca was missing key players like Edinson Cavani, Ayrton Costa, and Ander Herrera. Despite these absences, Gago expressed hope that some of these players might be available for the second leg. "We'll see day by day how the injured players are progressing. I believe there will be players who can make it", he commented.
Finally, Gago sent a reassuring message to the Boca fans, who were concerned about the defeat. "To the fans, I say to trust, we are going to work and try to make this a team that competes and achieves qualification. These are just football matters", he concluded, reaffirming his commitment to the team and the hope of advancing in the Copa Libertadores.
