Internacional come back from 3 down to draw with Nacional in the 2025 Copa Libertadores
Nacional from Uruguay, coming into the game with two straight losses, blew a three-goal lead and ended up drawing against Internacional from Porto Alegre, who stormed back in the second half in a wild Group F clash in the Copa Libertadores.
Nacional caught them off guard early
The Uruguayan side struck early and hard. By the 10th minute, they were already up 0-2 thanks to a bicycle kick from Julián Millán off a corner and a powerful finish from Luciano Boggio after a quick counterattack. The third goal came just before halftime, with Sebastián Coates capitalizing on a mistake from keeper Anthoni, who was filling in for the injured Sergio Rochet.
Internacional managed to pull one back just before halftime, as Alan Patrick slotted home a penalty after Wesley was fouled. After the break, the Brazilian side looked like a new team. Argentine defender Alexandro Bernabei made it 2-3 in the 67th minute with a cool finish after a great pass from Óscar Romero, and just six minutes later, former Sevilla man Fernando headed in the equalizer from a corner.
Controversial calls and a tense finish
Venezuelan referee Alexis Herrera came under fire for some controversial decisions, including a disallowed goal by Wesley for offside and a possible penalty on Enner Valencia that wasn’t given. Nacional had gone into the match treating it like a must-win and nearly pulled it off, but Inter’s second-half intensity was just too much.
With this draw, Internacional move to 5 points and stay top of Group F, while Nacional, picking up their first point, remain at the bottom. The group standings will be clearer after the matchup between Bahía and Atlético Nacional.
